Luosto, known for its old forests and idyllic log village, is located in the municipality of Sodankylä, about 40 kilometers from the municipality center of Sodankylä. The nearest airport and train station is in Rovaniemi. From Rovaniemi is a year-round bus connection to Luosto, which serves as a connection to flights and trains.

In Luosto you can hike in Pyhä-Luosto National Park, visit the Lampivaara amethyst mine, or relax in the Amethyst spa. The must thing to experience in Luosto is to visit the sustainable Lampivaara amethyst mine. The centre of Luosto is small, and all services are easily accessible on foot. Starting point to Pyhä-Luosto National Park, as well as the summer and winter trails, can be found in the vicinity of the Luosto ski slopes. The birdlife in the old woods in the Pyhä-Luosto national park is particularly diverse - 128 species of birds have been found in Luosto, which a hiker may encounter, for example, whistling on the branch of an old pine tree.

During summer the best views of Luosto opens from the top of Ukkoluosto fell. The popular hiking route is classified as a medium-demand route and the climb consists of 670 steps. Pyhä-Luosto national park offers 150 km of summer trails suitable for hiking and most of trails for biking as well. Well-know for its geology, gorges, wetlands and up to 400-year-old forest. Superb destination for day trips and short hikes for all year round. In Luosto we recommend seeing the magnificent views from the top of Ukkoluosto fell, Rykimäkero storage holds and Rykimäkuru gorge.

Luostotunturi Amethyst spa’s gentle waves and various water jet massage points of the bird-shaped multipurpose pool and the amethyst cave jaccuzzi will take you to the tropics even in mid-winter. You will find pleasant temperatures of around 32°C on the poolside and some 30°C in the water. The Finnish sauna and the Turkish bath together with massage, treatment and gym services will help you relax after a day spent outdoors.

Aurora Borealis are more visible in the high-latitude regions; around the Arctic and Antarctic. Luosto has great geographically opportunities for seeing the northern lights. In addition to the location of the north, the resort has an aim to minimise the degree of light pollution in the area by renewing the lighting of the center road and trails so that the amount of lightning will remain as small as possible so that stars and northern lights are visible from the centre of Luosto. Northern lights are a phenomenon and are not always to be seen.

A large part of the winter outdoor trails in Luosto goes in the Pyhä-Luosto National Park. The snow-covered old forest, the route profile, and the varying colors of the Arctic sky make a snowshoe- or ski trip a memorable experience.
