In Loviisa you can enjoy both idyllic seascapes at the coastline of Eastern Gulf of Finland and fascinating regional culture and history. At Laivasilta Pier the atmosphere of an old traditional harbor town prevails, and the delightful old red salt warehouses mark a perfect spot for travel pics. Pop into cafés, restaurants, shops and exhibitions, and relive the regional past in the Loviisa Maritime Museum. At the end of the pier a scheduled ferry will take you for a day trip on the beautiful island of adventures, Svartholm Sea Fortress.

The ruins of Loviisa fortification can also be found mainland on the lovely Ehrensvärd nature trail. For longer hikes with a stop at the campfire, Kukuljärvi hiking trail or Kalle’s Tour are a must. The most active visitors are offered comprehensive opportunities to get to know Loviisa’s watershed, for example, by renting a pedal boat, canoe, or kayak. You can also take a bike ride to one of Finland's best-preserved ironworks communities, Strömfors Ironworks. A bike ride to see the charming Old Houses of Loviisa is an activity not to miss. In addition, the Malmgård mansion, which is open to the public, hides fascinating stories from the past worth exploring.

Svartholm Sea Fortress

History & Architecture

Svartholm Sea Fortress is part of the Suomenlinna defense chain. The naval fortress was completed in the 1750s, and after that, it has gone through history and wars under Swedish and Russian rule. Finnish Heritage Agency began restoring the fortress in the 1960s and today the Svartholm Sea Fortress is a popular place to visit in the Loviisa archipelago. In addition to scheduled boat services, you can also get to the island by your own boat for a free guest boat berth. There is a summer restaurant on the natural island.

Laivasilta area

History & Architecture

The activities of the Laivasilta Area were started in the 18th century when Loviisa received a permit for foreign trade. Laivasilta was an important trading place, with about 50 wooden salt warehouses serving as storage for imported goods. Today Laivasilta is used as a guest marina and restaurants, exhibitions, merchants, and Maritime Museum serves in the red warehouses that exude history. The ship bridge is also an important meeting place, as it hosts a variety of events from Midsummer parties to boat and rowing competitions.

Historic Iron Works Area of Strömfors

History & Architecture

The historic Iron Works Area of Strömfors is located 18 km away from the center of Loviisa. The Iron Works area is one of the best-preserved ironworks communities in Finland, where craftsmanship sets a unique atmosphere. The ironworks area has several restaurants and cafés focused on local food, and you can also stay overnight in this unique setting. Rent a bike or sup-board and go on an adventure in this wooden house and historic production building environment.

Loviisa Manors

History & Architecture

Out of Loviisa’s many manors, Malmgård and Labby manors are open for visitors. Malmgård Manor, owned by Count Creutz, is located 24 km from central Loviisa. The manor focuses on organic and ecological farming production and produces, among other things, its own beer, which can be obtained from the manor shop. The main building of Labby Manor, moved from Suomenlinna in 1865, is surrounded by magnificent field environments and forests. Located 37 km from the center of Loviisa, Labby is also known for its organic and biodynamic cultivation method.
