The natural option
Kinnula municipality locates in Suomenselkä watershed region, in Central Finland and has approximately 1650 residents. Kinnula municipality takes about more than 2 hours of driving from Jyväskylä region. The vehicle you can take from Jyväskylä are buses (Onnibus, Matkahuolto), or private car. Most of the vehicle will take 2 hours to reach the destination. About the bus ticket price, it fluctuates from 4 to 7 euros for a route. From Helsinki, it will be a long route since it takes more than 7 hours to reach.

The passenger could choose the train and bus and the price are varied from 10 to 15 euros for buses and from 30 to 50 euros for trains. Kinnula is popular for its several bodies of water and outstanding landscapes. Therefore, Kinnula is well-known for its hiking routes and summer cottages. In summertime the population of Kinnula increases significantly because of the several people who come to spend summer to their cottages.

The most important attraction would be Salamajärvi National Park which has 11 different hiking routes and offers activities like fishing, bird watching and berry-picking, and accommodation in Koiransalmi nature hut. Popular events that are arranged in Kinnula area are Pollo-päivät and World Boot-throwing Championships.

Besides, the national park and its area, the Homeland museum is also a suggestion. The museum describes the history of Finland war life so that it is worth trying. Another site that could not be missed is the Deer Trail of this region, in the trail, people could totally explore the nature and enjoy the peaceful.

Kinnula Parliament

City Life

Kinnula Parliament is said to be the common living room of locals and travelers. It locates at the intersection of Viitasaarentie and Kivijärventie. The place includes café services, restaurant Scan Burger, grocery store, gift shop and cabinets for meetings. There is also a tourist info desk, that can help tourists to reach information about the activities and attractions of the Kinnula area.

Kinnula Homeland museum

History & Architecture

The museum is considered as a complex area of old Ostrobothnian-style buildings since 1958. There are farmhouses which built up in the last century with the purpose of containing necessities. The most interesting part of the museum is the museum dugout which is claimed to be the speciality of the area. The museum is controlled by the Kinnula Society council of the city of Kinnula. With this association, the unique tradition and culture of Kinnula are preserved and developed and the museum is known as one of the precious properties of the city.

Cuisine

Ruska Bar & Bistro is famous restaurant in the heart of Kinnula. It offers authentic lunch buffet from Monday to Friday in the time of 11am to 3pm. There is also the menu for the a la carte purpose and it is served until 3pm also from Monday to Friday. Additionally, pizza is also provided as a dish in the restaurant. With the ingredients from local, such as the dish is considered to be authentic and fresh.

Salamanjärvi National Park

Landscapes & Sceneries

Salamajärvi national park was established in 1982 and covers 62 square kilometres and the park is known especially for its deer and Suomenselkä watershed. In addition to deer, the national park has primeval forests, small forest lakes full of tasty fish, swamps, and fields. Follow in the hoofprints of wild forest reindeer on the Peuran Polku Trail. You might even spot some of these rare animals.

World Boot-throwing Championships

Outdoor & Sports

Boot throwing is a Finnish sport where you must throw a boot as far as you can. World Boot-throwing Championships are held annually in Kinnula, most specifically in the beginning of July. Besides men and women individual competitions, there are also team competitions. The organizers of the event are Kinnula municipality and International Boot throwing Association (IBTA).
