Laukaa is located in Central Finland. It's a municipality with 19 000 residents. Laukaa has a lot of clean nature and many different activities around it. There is rock themed John Smith festival every year that attracts also international tourists. The most popular tourist destinations in Laukaa are Hyyppäänvuori, Saraakalliot and Hitonhauta.

Hyypäänvuori is known to be "Koli" of Central Finland. Saraakalliot is the largest rock paintings in Fennoscandia on 7,000-year-old waterways. Hitonhauta is a rugged gorge valley from the ice age. Laukaa harbor is very famous. The harbor is located in the shore of lake Saraavesi. The view from the harbor is breathtakingly beautiful especially in the summertime when the whole harbor area ‘’rises from the dead’’. The harbor area attracts people from near and far.

From Jyväskylä you can get to Laukaa by bus in 30 minutes. If you wanna visit the nature attractions you need your own car.

Outdoor & Sports

The harbor is located in the shore of lake Saraavesi. The view from the harbor is breathtakingly beautiful especially in the summertime when the whole harbor area "rises from the dead". The harbor area attracts people from near and far. You can access the harbor of course via lake or by road. People arriving with boats can park their boats to harbors dock for a fee. Caravans have their own area to park and it also has a fee.

Hyyppäänvuori is a unique travel destination in a central Finland. It’s located on the southwest shore of the lake lievestuoreenjärvi and rises to a height of 171 meters. Hyyppäänvuori offers magnificent views to back of lake lievestuoreenjärvi and it’s surrounding forest landscape. Hyyppäänvuori is known to be the ‘’Koli’’ of the central Finland and it’s also valuable wilderness Natura 2000-area in terms of geology, landscape, flora and fauna.

Saraakallio rock paintings

History & Architecture

Saraakallio's rock paintings are 40 meters high in a rock formation on the eastern shore of Saraavesi, opposite Laukaa church village. The rock paintings of Saraakallio are the largest image field in Fennoscandia, with more than 100 rock paintings or parts of them. Only 20 of the images are clearly visible, of which only 5–6 images are perceived by the untrained observer. The Sarah rock is considered an ancient sacred place of sacrifice and worship. The first painted subjects are about 7000 years old.

Hitonhauta

Landscapes & Sceneries

Hitonhauta is a gorge valley about 800 meters long and 30-40 meters wide and a magnificent hiking destination, which was born after a steep ice age. Folk tales tell of a Hitto goblin who has frightened people in a gorge. The petrified face of the damn can be found in the rock wall of the gorge.
