If beautiful landscapes and northern wilderness are in your interests you should visit in Muonio. Muonio is a low pace and relaxed municipality in the heart of Fell Lapland. There is no bars and wild nightlife, Muonio is all about nature and northern wilderness.

You can reach Muonio by plane, car or train. Kittilä Airport is only one hour away from Muonio. Or you can choose to drive to Muonio, drive from Helsinki is around 1000 kilometres. Other option is a train to Kolari station where you can get to Muonio also in an hour by bus or taxi.

Muonio is a great destination throughout the year, but winter in Northern part of Finland is truly something special. Experience the real Lapland while trying numerous winter activities. You can try skiing or snowboarding, cross-country skiing, go snowshoeing in winter wonderland, or rent a snowmobile and enjoy the speed with unforgettable scenery. One of the most popular things are also to visit in a reindeer farm or meet fluffy huskies and go for a husky safari.

During the summer and autumn you can hike and camp around Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Fishing, biking and kayaking are also popular activies outside of the winter months.

Arctic Sauna World

Arctic Sauna World is located in Muonio, on the shores of lake Jeris. Lake Jeris is a holy lake for Sami people and well-known for its great fish catches. Arctic Sauna World is unique place with four different elements; earth, fire, water and air combined to shape the fifth element, the spirit of sauna. In Finnish folk tales Löyly is a synonym for a spirit and part of our soul in Finnish mythology. You can enjoy four different saunas and 15 metre wide ice hole on the terrace. There is also a fifth sauna, which can be rented for a private use.

This part of Lapland, in the National park of Pallas-Yllästunturi has the freshest air in the world. Trek from hilltop to hilltop through the arctic fells along Finland's first hiking trail. Here you can enjoy hiking or skiing through the wilds, but still find welcoming lodgings for comfortable overnight stays in historic Lappish villages. One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is Taivaskero trail. Taivaskero is 9 km long trail which is a great half-day trail.

Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and snowy landscapes in Fell Lapland. There are marked snowshoe trails in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Check the weather forecast and trails beforehand and prepare properly if you are going on your own. Snowshoes can be rented from the service providers in the area.

Northern Lights

Magical Northern Lights are very common sight above the Arctic Circle. You can book different kind of guided tours where you will be taken out of the village to the woods to see this magical show of the nature. Sometimes when you are lucky you are also able to see them from your cabin. Best time to see the Northern Lights is from October to March.

Olos Ski Resort is located in Beautiful Muonio Fell area. You will find 4 lifts and 10 groomed slopes with kids slope and Snowpark area as well. There is also 250 kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks. The beautiful fells in the national park are perfect for trek skiing, even without a skiing trail.
