In the heart of Lake Saimaa
The 781 m long Puumalansalmi Bridge is one of the largest highway bridges in Finland. Its lift takes you to the Saimaanmajakka observation tower, which offers a beautiful view over the Lake Saimaa.

There are several geosites of Saimaa Geopark in Puumala, including Haukkovuori Scarps that rise 81 meters above the surface of Saimaa, the 800 m long Kukonharju canal and Syrjäsalmi rock paintings that are estimated to be 3500-6000 years old.

There are several beautiful hiking and cycling routes in Puumala. Puumala Archipelago route (60 km) is a spectacular scenic trail for cyclists. Hiisipolku (1,7 km) is an easy walking trail suitable for the whole family. The 13 km long circular trail, Norppapolku offers hikers versatile terrain in the picturesque archipelago and Kukkeistenpolku (10 km) takes you to woodlands and mires.

Lake Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland. In Puumala you can enjoy the lake and the beauty it can offer by canoeing, boating or fishing in the summer. The brave ones can try ice floating in the winter. If you are lucky, you can even spot the rare Saimaa seal.
