Kammiovuori Mountain

Wildlife & Nature

Kammiovuori Mountain is the highest point in East Häme, and from its peak a magnificent view opens up far out over the area’s forests and lakes. Along the route, which winds through a hilly and atmospheric forest landscape, the sites to be seen include the seven metre high “Sysmä Linta” boulder and Hiskia Cave, which according to tradition was home to a hermit who lived on Kammiovuori Mountain at the beginning of the 20th-century. Along the route there are also information boards which introduce the area’s diverse nature.

Sysmä Manors

History & Architecture

Sysmä is known for its large manors. It had the largest number during the 19th century, when there were around 30 in total. Over the decades, some manors were destroyed in fires and others became run down and were eventually demolished. Today, there are still 10 manors remaining, of which six still have a main building which was built either at the beginning of the 19th century or even earlier. The parish’s most well-known aristocratic families are the Tandefelts, the Silfverbögels and the Reids. The manors in Sysmä are nowadays private homes.

Silver moon is an metallic ode to Olavi Virta, to his life and his universal, unique genius for interpreting Finnish melancholy and dreams and for music in general. The memorial statue depicts the course of Olavi Virta’s life. It represents life and the rhythm of music, movement and contrast, dreams and reality, starting from the ground and ending in the clouds, in dreams and in outer space.
