Toivakka

Feels Goods
Toivakka is a beautiful and growing municipality of 2,400 inhabitants located about half an hour away from Jyväskylä, on the water-front. Jylhä Päijänne and Leppälahti are a fisherman's dream. Toivakka also has the deepest point in Finland's inland waters, the Ristinselkä. Nature is present to us and even Queen Elizabeth II has enjoyed our rugged forests. Fans of the Crown series should head to Elizabeth's Forest, named in honor of the Queen. For tourists, Toivakka offers diverse accommodation options, food and a wide range of activities.

Toivakka Church

History & Architecture

The long church with an end tower was built according to the plans of the architect L. I. Lindqvist in 1879–1882. The belfry was completed earlier in 1871. The church's style is neo-Gothic. Toivakka Church is located on Syrjäharju, from which its tower separates on the main road that runs through the church village. The church was renovated in the 1920s under the direction of architect Alvar Aalto. Aalto also designed artefacts for the church.
