Viitasaari

A little better periphery
Viitasaari is located in the embrace of the shimmering Keitelejärvi in northern Central Finland. Highway nr. 4 and Blue Road provide fast connections to the modern rural town. The area may have been inhabited since the 11th century, as Keitele as a boating route has made it possible for the residents of Häme to move to their cabins. Viitasaari's municipal administration was founded in the parish assembly in 1868 and Viitasaari became a city in 1996. The magnificent lakes in the area have attracted people to build cottages, and especially in summer, when cottagers arrive, Viitasaari blossoms.

During the summer, you can enjoy the events of the market square, enjoy traditional market coffee and taste the golden crispy vendace of Keitele. Other summer activities worth experiencing include the Huopana rapids and its old mill, fishing, berry picking and mushroom picking, a frisbee golf course and beaches.

In winter, you can spend time by cross-country skiing, sheds and indoor swimming pool in Viitasaari. The year-round Savivuori outdoor area offers opportunities for mountain biking and downhill skiing.

You can reach Viitasaari by car or public transport. Jyväskylä Airport is 78 km from Viitasaari. The distance to Jyväskylä Travel Center is about 104 kilometers. There are daily driving services from Jyväskylä to Viitasaari and most of the times also pass through the airport.

In co-operation with JAMK University of Applied Sciences, we welcome You to Viitasaari!
