Drive along Finland's longest museum road to Virolahti! Virolahti has a great setting for shopping at the Zsar Outlet Village and various activities thanks to its unique nature and sea. Virolahti is part of the Gulf of Finland National Park, established in 1982, in which migratory flocks of millions of Arctic birds fly over in the spring.

Virolahti has a high-quality setting for golfing, geocaching, and mountain biking. The sheds along the Salpapolku invite you for a treat by the campfire, and at the Virolahti Bunker Museum, which served as a defensive station during the war, you can learn about the history of fortifying the eastern land border. The Nature Center, established in connection with the bunker museum with the Green Belt project, provides visitors with information about nature and the environment through virtual reality. You can also stay overnight in the bunker at the Bunker Museum.

In addition to education and various events in the field of natural resources, the Harju Learning Center in Virolahti organizes comprehensive program services, such as guided walking tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, rock descents, offroad rides, and much more.

The Bunker Museum

History & Architecture

Bunker Museum sheds light on the fascinating history of the construction of the Salpa Line, fortification of Finland’s eastern border in Virolahti in 1940–1941 and 1944. The museums' indoor exhibition engages the visitor to a multisensory experience through the visit. In the outdoor museum area, visitors can explore the captivating dugouts and other fortifications, nestling in nature, and feel the spirit of the wartime.

Salpa Line and Salpa Trail

Salpa Line – one of Europe’s strongest and best-preserved lines of defense fortification, built during the Second World War. 1200 km long Salpa Line is a massive set of fortifications on Finland’s eastern border. The construction started in 1940 and when it was finished in 1944 the defense line consisted of 728 concrete bunkers, 3000 wooden field fortresses, 225 km of anti-tank obstacles and more than 350 km of combat trenches. There is a 43-kilometer hiking route to explore parts of the line, called Salpa trail.

Zsar Outlet Village

Klamila Guest Harbour

When coming from west the first guest harbour in Virolahti is Klamila guest harbour. The harbour used to be the Finnish fleet haven during the war. Nowadays it is the biggest guest harbour of Virolahti that can host medium size boats. It is 1.6 km way to the Klamila village center. Summer restaurant Sataman Bar&Bistro is located right in the harbour area.
